How to block video ads
Video ads resist ordinary blocking because the player asks an advertising SDK what to show, and on some platforms the ad travels down the same pipe as the video itself. Two approaches actually work: replacing that SDK with a neutral stub, and stripping the ad schedule out of the player's configuration before it is read. AdOff uses both, and which one applies depends on the site.
Why video ads are the hardest to block
On most streaming sites the player loads an advertising SDK that decides when to show pre-rolls and mid-rolls. Blocking by URL is unreliable there, and on the largest video platform it is impossible: the ads travel through the same content servers as the video, so a filter strict enough to stop the ad also stops the programme.
Approach one — neutralising the ad SDK
Where a player uses the common IMA advertising standard, AdOff intercepts the request for that SDK and serves a neutral replacement from inside the extension. When the player asks which ads to play, the stub answers that there are none and signals "resume content" straight away. This covers a large share of broadcaster players — see ad blocking on catch-up TV services.
Approach two — stripping the ad schedule
The largest video platform does not use that standard, so AdOff takes a different route there: it edits the player's own configuration, removing the ad entries before the page reads them, and fast-forwards at 16x anything that still gets scheduled. The detail is in skipping ads on the main video platform.
Where this does not apply
Some premium services stitch their ads into the video stream on the server, so there is no separate ad to intercept. AdOff deliberately leaves those players alone rather than breaking them. Live-streaming platforms that splice ads into the broadcast are the same story. We would rather say so than promise a result we cannot deliver.

Both approaches are part of the free version — no account, no card, nothing to activate. They stop only if you pause AdOff on a site or switch the protection off yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Why do most ad blockers fail on video ads?
Because the ads are scheduled by the player's advertising SDK rather than loaded as separate, recognisable URLs. Filtering URLs is unreliable, and on the largest platform the ads share the content servers, so blocking them blocks the video too.
How does AdOff handle video ads?
Two ways. It replaces the advertising SDK with a neutral stub where the common standard is used, and on the largest video platform it strips the ad schedule from the player configuration and fast-forwards anything left at 16x.
Does video ad blocking work on every platform?
No, and we do not claim it does. It works where the player uses the common ad standard, or where AdOff has a dedicated path. Services that insert ads into the stream on the server side are not affected.
Is there an ad blocker that skips video ads?
Yes — AdOff neutralizes video ads: when a video player asks the ad SDK to play an ad, AdOff makes it resume immediately, so the video continues without the ad break. It is 100% free, with no account. Server-side inserted ads are the known exception.
Fewer interruptions, honestly explained
AdOff neutralises the ad SDK where it can, and strips the ad schedule where it cannot. Free, no account.
